In the frame: photography contest to celebrate volunteers in Donegal

Amateur photographers, or those with a keen eye for that perfect image, are invited to enter a photography competition which aims to celebrate volunteers in Donegal.

The Donegal Volunteer Center and Donegal County Museum have launched the annual Community Volunteer Photography Competition and it is now open for entries.

They invite amateur photographers to submit images of volunteers at work anywhere in County Donegal.

“The Community Volunteer Photography Contest is an opportunity to express our thanks to our volunteers in a more formal way. It also gives us the opportunity to showcase and celebrate the valuable work they do across the county. “said John Curran, director of the Donegal Volunteer Centre. .

In addition to the general award, the County Donegal Museum has established the ‘Volunteering in Heritage – the John McDermott Memorial Award’.

“The County Donegal Museum has established this award in memory of the late John McDermot. As a volunteer, John spent years photographing archaeological and historic sites across the county, many of which are now part of the John Collection McDermott from the Donegal County Museum,” Caroline said. All entries will be featured in an exhibit as part of Culture Night at the County Museum, which opens on Friday, September 23. Finalists will also be invited to the awards event at the Donegal County Museum during Social Inclusion Week in early October.

All photographs submitted must show volunteers in action, belong to the entrants and have been taken in County Donegal between 1 January 2021 and the closing date of 19 August.

Prizes for the Volunteering in Action competition include a €400 Shop LK voucher for the top winner, and two €50 vouchers for the runners-up. The Volunteering in Heritage – the John McDermott Memorial Award is a €100 voucher for Magee’s photo lab.
