Filming is underway on Netflix’s The Witcher season 3

Netflix has begun filming the third season of The Witcher, their flashy (and silly and campy and fun) adaptation of the books about the white-haired monster hunter. To prove it, they shared a single on-location photo from the set and the official synopsis for the new season.

Let’s start with the photo, because I love photos, they are beautiful:

Here’s the official synopsis for season three, as shared by Netflix’s Witcher Twitter account:

“As the continent’s monarchs, mages, and beasts battle to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra underground, determined to protect her newly reunited family from those who threaten to destroy her. Charged with Magical Training from Ciri, Yennefer leads them to the protected area fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to learn more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover that they have landed on a battleground of political corruption. , dark magic and betrayal. They must fight back, put it all on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

It was reported three months ago, alongside the release of season two, that the scripts for The Witcher’s third season were nearing completion. It’s a much shorter gap between seasons than there was between the first and second, where filming was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

While the Netflix adaptations are based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels and not the game, there is an obvious overlap. Last month, CD Projekt Red confirmed that they were working on a fourth entry in their Witcher series, although it’s not expected to star Geralt as the protagonist.

If it’s Geralt you want, then you’ll have to settle for Henry Cavill with a wig. Here is the Season 2 trailer to jog your memory:
