Fatal Frame IV: Mask of The Lunar Eclipse will receive an HD remaster for Nintendo Switch and other consoles. This will be the first time the game will launch outside of Japan.
The game has no confirmed release date but will launch in early 2023.
Fatal Frame IV was originally released for the Nintendo Wii in 2008 but was never localized in English, although it received a fan-made transition patch later. The game is notable for being co-developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and co-directed by Suda51, the creator of the No More Heroes and Killer 7 games.
The story sees protagonist Ruka Minzauki, survivor of an abduction as a child, returning to the island she was taken to in an attempt to remember her childhood and why she was the only survivor when everyone is dead.
Fatal Frame IV is a survival horror game where rather than shooting or running away from attacking ghosts, you instead take their shot. Using a special camera called Camera Obscura, you take pictures of the ghosts in order to exorcise them.
The closer you get to the ghosts, the more effective the image will be. Of course, this is also where it’s easiest for them to attack you, creating a horrible risk-vs-reward system.
Fatal Frame IV: Mask of The Lunar Eclipse will be released for nintendo switch as well as PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2023.
