Blessing Enuewegu, a cleaner in Delta State, was physically assaulted by her boss for breaking a picture frame.
According to Enuewegu, the incident happened on Saturday at the residence of his 52-year-old boss along Jocceco Drive in Ekpan, Delta State.
In a video obtained by the IFJ, Enuewegu recounted how she narrowly escaped death after sustaining bodily injuries from the heavy beatings she suffered at the hands of the boss.
“Na nobody wey i am work na he beat me like that. E say I fall frame him. E bites my hand; walk me for the womb. I even see the period of strength. I use that I kneel, nudge, slap and step on my private part,” she says.
Israel Joe, a Facebook user who posted the video on Sunday, told IFJ he could not provide the name of the employer.
“I spoke with the woman some time ago and she is recovering and I also spoke to the DPD who said they would stop at nothing to see justice done. We will provide a development update soon” , said Joe.
“The case has been reported to the Ekpan Division Headquarters of the Nigerian Police, Delta State Command, and we urge DPO CSP Bulus Rimamchirika Musa who is already on the matter to defend this course of justice by arresting him and charging him (Enuewegu’s boss) accordingly.”
The IFJ made several phone calls to Bright Edafe, the state police spokesperson, seeking comment on the matter, but they received no response. A text message sent to him had also not received a response at press time.
