CatLABS x Film 320 is a unique new black and white emulsion

CatLABS announced an all-new black-and-white film emulsion that promises unique grain and tonal range to produce photos the company says are unlike anything else on the market.

CatLABS is a Boston, MA-based film and photography equipment distributor dedicated to large format photography. CatLABS claims that it is one of the only places in the world specifically dedicated to large format photography and offers a wide range of cameras, lenses, film holders, tripods, films and all other related accessories. It also offers film processing services and now produces its own.

Called CatLABS X FILM 320 Pro, the new emulsion is available in 35mm and 120 film formats and is entirely unique to CatLABS and unavailable from any other manufacturer in any other packaging, as is sometimes the case with other films. The company claims that this new black and white film was made with the highest quality control, which makes this film comparable to that of other major film manufacturers and brings superb image quality and unique characteristics.

Film 320 Pro is described as a classic medium-speed film designed for a wide range of shooting conditions, but is ideal as a “street film” due to its versatility and the way it renders photos.

“Following in the footsteps of some classic historical films, CatLABS X FILM 320 is characterized by its distinct grain quality, contrast and tonal range not found with other films currently available,” says CatLABS.

The company describes the film as producing unique deep gray tones with an almost silvery or metallic appearance and it is suitable for low light or available light conditions as it has a wide exposure latitude under varying light levels.

“For best results, rate it at ISO 200 when shooting outdoors in bright sunlight. Push it up to 1600 when shooting in artificial light or low light conditions,” the company explains.
