Canon EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera with 30.3-megapixel sensor, launches 4K video recording

Just two weeks after Nikon introduced its full-frame mirrorless cameras, the Z6 and Z7, Canon has officially unveiled the EOS R, which is its first-ever full-fledged mirrorless digital camera. The announcement was made at a ceremony held in Tokyo, Japan. The camera has a new RF mount, which means we even have a new set of lenses that have been introduced as well. The EOS R will be available in October for an estimated value of $2,299 (roughly Rs 1,57,700) for the physical alone, which undercuts the Nikon Z6 and puts it more in line with the Sony A7 III. Canon can even offer a package for $3,399 (around Rs. 2.33,300) which comes with the RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens.

The all-new EOS R features a 30.3-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor with Canon’s famous DualPixel autofocus (AF) know-how and DIGIC 8 image processor. ISO range is pretty good too, at from 100-40,000, with steady 8fps capture and a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000s. The camera also supports 4K video recording at up to 30 fps, 1080p recording at up to 60 fps, and HD recording at up to 120 fps. Superior capture modes such as Canon Log, 4:2:0 8-bit re-encoding and 4:2:2 10-bit video output via HDMI are also supported. The camera also has a silent capture mode, but only for single body capture. Silent burst mode capture may arrive sooner or later thanks to a software update.

The Canon EOS R packs a fully articulating touchscreen and an all-new multi-function touch bar next to the EVF

One of the many strengths of the EOS R is the 5,655 selectable autofocus factors, compared to 493 AF factors on Nikon’s top-end Z7 and 693 AF factors on the A9 full-frame mirrorless cameras. Sony flagships. This could give the EOS R a huge advantage when it comes to monitoring fast-paced subjects. You get an EVF with a resolution of 3.69 million dots as well as a fully articulating 3.2-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 2.1 million dots. The new EOS R packs a new touch bar right next to the EVF, which Canon says “gives users easier access to their customizable settings, such as AF, ISO and frame stability. white”.

The digital camera features built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, a single UHS-II SD card slot, and a mud- and weather-resistant body that weighs approximately 580g. The EOS R can be compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses via the respective adapters. Canon also launched four lenses on this occasion, including the RF 24-105mm F4L IS, RF 50mm F1.2L, RF 28-70mm F2L and RF 35mm F1.8 IS Macro. The company has also launched a new application called Digital Photograph Professional Professional for the Apple iPad, which allows users to edit CR3 RAW recording data on their tablet. This can be obtained in October.
